Jaguar’s next chapter now has a production car to carry it. Unveiled in New York in October 2026, the all-electric Type 01 is a four-door grand tourer with a clear task: introduce a newly focused Jaguar to the luxury market. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with production due to begin that year and first customer deliveries anticipated in the second half.
The Type 01’s story began with the Type 00 concept, revealed at Miami Art Week in December 2024. Its long bonnet, fastback roof and striking proportions previewed a dramatic departure for the marque. The concept also signalled a broader reset: Jaguar would become an all-electric brand, with a new visual identity and a more exclusive position in the market.
Type 01 brings that vision closer to the road. Its name links the “Type” lineage to zero tailpipe emissions, while “01” identifies it as the first car in Jaguar’s new generation. The production model retains the concept’s long, low stance and distinctive silhouette, adapting them for a four-door GT designed for everyday journeys as well as long-distance travel.
A GT Built Around a New Platform

Jaguar says the car’s proportions depend on its bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA. The dedicated platform gives designers and engineers more freedom to shape the body and cabin around the car’s electric powertrain. That freedom shows in the extended bonnet, low roofline and broad stance, while aerodynamic features help give the Type 01 a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23.
The performance figures are ambitious. A three-motor system is expected to deliver up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, with a claimed 0–62mph time of 3.2 seconds. Jaguar describes the car as a grand tourer with two sides: strong acceleration when called upon, and a composed, comfortable character for cruising.

An 850-volt electrical system and 118kWh usable battery underpin the range and charging targets. Jaguar estimates up to 400 miles on the EPA cycle and up to 450 miles WLTP, figures that remain subject to certification. The company also says rapid charging at up to 350kW can add as much as 200 miles of range in 13 minutes under suitable conditions.
Inside, the cabin is arranged around a central spine that separates four individual seating spaces. A 24-inch OLED display sits ahead of the driver, with a smaller touchscreen for frequently used controls. The materials and layout are intended to make the interior feel like a carefully composed space, extending the car’s emphasis on design beyond its exterior.
A More Exclusive Place in the Market

The Type 01 is also a statement about where Jaguar wants to compete. JLR has positioned Jaguar as its all-electric brand, distinct from Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. The new GT combines that electric-only direction with a luxury focus and a starting price of £130,000 in the UK. In the United States, Jaguar has announced a starting price of $130,500.
That price and positioning mark a shift toward a smaller, more exclusive part of the market. Jaguar is placing design, performance and a sense of occasion at the centre of its appeal, rather than trying to serve the broad range of buyers it once targeted. The car’s success will depend on whether customers see enough substance behind that promise: not just a bold shape, but the quality, refinement and ownership experience expected at this level.
From Unveiling to Production

The transition from concept to customer car now moves into its final stretch. Type 01 will be built at JLR’s Solihull operations in the United Kingdom, using the dedicated JEA platform. Its electric drive units and battery packs are planned for production in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from Halewood in Merseyside. JLR says work on the production lines is at an advanced stage.
Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first deliveries planned for the second half of the year. Those dates turn the Type 01 from a design statement into a test of Jaguar’s return: the first new-generation production model must persuade luxury buyers that the brand’s reinvention works on the road as convincingly as it does on a show stand.
Jaguar has made its direction unmistakable. In 2027, the Type 01 will begin answering the harder question: can a radically reimagined electric GT make the marque feel unmistakably Jaguar again?
