Cadillac LYRIQ-V — Does Electric Speed Make a Better Luxury SUV?

The Cadillac LYRIQ-V can reach 60 mph in a Cadillac-estimated 3.3 seconds. That is startling pace for a five-seat luxury SUV, but acceleration alone cannot settle the more useful question: does the V treatment make the LYRIQ better to live with? The answer depends on how much value a driver places on that surge of speed—and how often they will use it.

The Speed Is Real. The Character Is More Complicated.

With Velocity Max activated, the LYRIQ-V’s dual motors deliver a Cadillac-estimated 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque through all-wheel drive. Launch Control makes the headline sprint possible, while a steering-wheel V button gives the driver quick access to preferred performance settings. Brembo front brakes, quicker steering, adaptive dampers and a lower ride height are meant to make this more than a standard LYRIQ with a stronger launch.

Those changes give the SUV sharper responses, but the LYRIQ-V remains a large, heavy vehicle. Its greatest performance trick is the effortless way it gathers speed on an open road. Drivers seeking the feel of a smaller sport sedan through tight corners may find that the V badge promises more involvement than the SUV delivers. Electric power makes it exceptionally quick; it does not make its size disappear.

Can It Still Feel Like a Cadillac?

This is where the LYRIQ-V makes its strongest case. The cabin is quiet, the seats are generous, and the two-row layout gives passengers room to settle in. The 33-inch display, Google-based navigation and available driver settings add a modern feel, while Super Cruise can ease the workload on compatible highways when its conditions for use are met. On an ordinary commute, the V’s extra power can feel less like a demand to drive aggressively and more like an ample reserve.

The ride deserves a test on familiar roads, though. Reviews have differed on how well the adaptive dampers manage broken pavement: some drivers found the SUV smooth and settled, while others felt sharper impacts than they expected from a Cadillac. Its 22-inch wheels are part of that tradeoff. Anyone buying primarily for comfort should drive the LYRIQ-V and the regular LYRIQ over the same rough stretch before deciding what the performance upgrades are worth.

The Daily-Use Calculation

Cadillac LYRIQ-V

Cadillac lists an EPA-estimated 285 miles of range for the LYRIQ-V. That leaves plenty of flexibility for many daily routines, particularly with dependable home charging, but it is less range than the regular LYRIQ can offer. Repeated hard acceleration, highway speeds and cold weather can also change what a driver sees between charges. On a longer trip, the practical question is where and how long to charge, rather than how quickly the SUV can leave a stoplight.

The current 2027 LYRIQ-V has a standard NACS charging port, and Cadillac says DC fast charging can add up to 75 miles of range in about 10 minutes under suitable conditions. That figure describes a short charging window, not a complete recharge. The vehicle’s charging rate, the station’s output, battery temperature and state of charge all matter. At home, an appropriate charging setup does more for everyday convenience than another fraction of a second off the acceleration time.

Who Gets the Better SUV?

Cadillac LYRIQ-V

For a buyer who wants a hushed, spacious Cadillac with a dramatic turn of speed, the LYRIQ-V brings a compelling combination. Its performance is available at a touch, yet its cabin and everyday manners still give it a clear luxury purpose. The appeal is strongest when the driver enjoys both sides of its personality.

For someone who rarely asks for full power, the regular LYRIQ may be the more satisfying choice. It offers the same basic space and electric calm, with greater available range and a ride worth comparing directly. The LYRIQ-V makes the luxury SUV faster beyond dispute. Whether it makes one better comes down to the road beneath it and the driver behind the wheel.

The LYRIQ-V succeeds when its speed feels like a bonus to a comfortable daily drive. Its quiet cabin and easy power make that case convincingly, though the firmer responses over rough roads and shorter range ask for a real compromise. Take the long way on a test drive. A launch shows what the V can do in seconds; an ordinary road shows what it will be like to own.
